RATIONALE

Scientific literacy is a prerequisite for a person becoming a participating and contributing member of today’s society. The Saint Thomas Aquinas Science Department aims to promote this literacy by:

examining basic concepts through scientific inquiry
helping our students become flexible and adaptable rather than focusing on acquiring specialized knowledge
encouraging our students to examine the impact of scientific knowledge on their lives, society, and the environment

DEPARTMENT GOALS

Our department goals are to:

develop in our students the capacity to think critically, especially when analyzing personal and societal issues
cultivate our students’ appreciation for the scientific endeavor and their potential to contribute to it
provide our students with the opportunity and skills to pursue further study in a scientific field or a field related to science
facilitate our students’ exploration and appreciation for the many connections between science and our Catholic Faith
