SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
RATIONALE
Scientific literacy is a prerequisite for a person becoming a participating and contributing member of today’s society. The Saint Thomas Aquinas Science Department aims to promote this literacy by:
-
examining basic concepts through scientific inquiry
-
helping our students become flexible and adaptable rather than focusing on acquiring specialized knowledge
-
encouraging our students to examine the impact of scientific knowledge on their lives, society, and the environment
DEPARTMENT GOALS
Our department goals are to:
- develop in our students the capacity to think critically, especially when analyzing personal and societal issues
- cultivate our students’ appreciation for the scientific endeavor and their potential to contribute to it
- provide our students with the opportunity and skills to pursue further study in a scientific field or a field related to science
- facilitate our students’ exploration and appreciation for the many connections between science and our Catholic Faith
